Student Support & Wellbeing

Ashburton College is committed to fostering an environment that supports Individual Excellence in a Supported Learning Environment. Our approach is anchored in the AshColl Way – Achieving Quality, Having Respect, and Showing Pride – and is further strengthened by the values of whanaungatanga (relationships and connection), manaakitanga (care and compassion), rangatiratanga (leadership and responsibility), and kotahitanga (unity and collective purpose).

Together, these principles guide and inform all actions, programmes, and decisions across our school. At every level, our focus remains the same: to provide the best opportunities and ensure the best possible outcomes for every student.

We recognise the vital role support plays in student success. Our pastoral system ensures every student is cared for.

Beyond core academic learning and extra-curricular opportunities, a range of specialist programmes are available.

We place great value on collaborative partnerships between home and school, recognising that strong co-operation between family, whānau and the College is essential in supporting every learner to achieve success.

Ako System

Each student belongs to an Ako Class, staying with the same group throughout these years. The Ako Teacher has a primary duty of care and responsibility for the class members.
